Sustainability

I have been working as a sustainablity educator since 2009. I have worked in different facets of sustainability focussing more on environmental and social aspects of it. I have developed educational resources, think pieces and research studies focused on sustainable development, along with education and awareness strategies. I am skilled in providing policy support to governments and multilateral organizations, particularly in the areas of Green Education and integrating Climate Change Education (CCE) into national curricula through designing research studies and offering technical consultative support.

Since 2009, I have been a dedicated environment educator with a focus on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). I am deeply versed in ESD and Climate Change Education, empowering communities to embrace sustainability.

My key contributions include:

• Designing learning experiences for upskilling of stakeholders such as students, teachers, policymakers and corporate employees
• Developing innovative self-paced and micro-learning modules
• Designing impactful research studies
• Crafting compelling education and awareness materials
• Providing strategic policy support
• Offering expert technical and consultative guidance
• Designing comprehensive resource booklets, teacher guides, and manuals

My work is driven by a commitment to fostering environmental stewardship and sustainability in educational settings.

Some of the key areas of work are highlighted below:

Youth Mobilization and Capacity Development 

I have worked extensively with youth, students, and teachers on sustainability issues. My key achievements include:

• Leading a team to implement large-scale programs on Climate Change education, funded by DELL Global Giving with a $100,000 budget, impacting 600 schools, 1,000 teachers, and 5,000 students.
• Managing the ‘Heritage and Culture’ education initiative, funded by the Government of India with a $50,000 budget, reaching 400 youth across 20 colleges.
• Overseeing the Regional Centre of Expertise Network of the United Nations University (UNU) on Education for Sustainable Development, supporting schools, universities, and expert groups.
• Conducting teacher training to integrate climate change into standard curricula.
• Serving as Co-project In-Charge on youth engagement projects for livelihood generation in urban slums, impacting 100 youth and women from low SES in 6 Indian cities and engaging 100+ corporate employees.
• Leading YUVA (Youth Unite for Voluntary Action) conferences in 2011 and 2012, organizing seminars in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, local youth networks, and state governments, reaching over 3,000 rural and urban youth.
• Developing and editing communication resources, including brochures, websites, posters, and reports, and creating films and videos for project dissemination.

 These initiatives have empowered communities, fostered sustainable practices, and driven impactful change.”

Textbook writer and support in the integration of ESD principles in the textbooks. I was part of the team from UNESCO leading the embedding of ESD in textbooks for primary students in the northeastern state of Sikkim, India 

Policy Support

 I have provided policy support in the following areas:

1. Supported the provincial government of Sikkim, India in embedding ESD in textbooks

2. Mobilizing key stakeholders and UN organizations for joint advocacy efforts for integrating CCE

3. Managing country network of UNU- RCE of local universities, NGOs and Civil Society organizations.

4. Support member states in developing curriculum standards on sustainability

GAISC 2021 Usefulness of integrating social and emotional approaches in Climate Change education

Climate change now affects the present and future of 7 billion people on the planet. In order to mitigate the challenges ahead it’s imperative for humanity to learn to live sustainably. To be able to do that there is a need for “positive societal transformation” which includes “empowering learners of any age, in any education setting, to transform themselves and the society they live in’.

I have strong experience in development of knowledge products such as videos, case studies and learning content related to sustainable development. I have produced 10+ learning videos for the online course and have led the scripting, idea facilitation and logistical arrangements for 4+ short movies.
